Rip Off Price of a 1989 300ZX, how to convince?
Some time back, I found a great 300ZX with decent miles, and it was the following:
-Missouri Car -150-some miles -5 speed manual -2door coupe, 2seater -naturally aspirated V6 3.0L VG30E -electronic dash -t-tops were in good condition -no rust! even underside! -dark blue paintjob, looks new -ebrake cable snapped, needs replacement -leather seats have some tears -steering wheel has lots of chip marks on the wheel itself -radio scan feature doesnt really work when operating from steering wheel -stock air filter, exhaust, wiring, tubes, etc. (maybe a new battery?) -some minor chips around the black paint surrounding the windows -stock rims, maybe stock wheels -HAD REAR DAMAGE, THUS BUMPER REPLACED, this is probably why the car may have a new paintjob, they decided to re-paint everything -exhaust pipe is rusting over -some of the rubber hosing material around the air box location is cracking -hydraulics to keep the hood up when opened are loosely screwed to hood assembly, thus hood wont stay open without assistance (easy fix) The dealership was advertising for $4900.00 back in the day, then moved the price down to $4650.00. the dealership said they might be able to go down to 4000.00 when i asked him about it. I failed to mention all the negatives about the car that i listed above, plus that n/a z31's dont go for much, even in good condition. So, i started thinking to myself, after returning home to wait for my parents to see my report card, and hopefully convincing them that I could trade or sell the avenger to get the z31; how would I go about convincing the dealership that these cars don't go for 4650.00, thats outrageous! 1) Perhaps take a mechanic along who has worked with Z's? But I don't think their are any in Iowa, lol. 2) Print off the KBB value of the car, and show it to them at the return. 3) Show other sales of the car, at various dealerships across Iowa, and the price, year, miles, etc., on the car. 4) Bring a Z specialist with me! (In Iowa?! Jeezz) 5) Get all your people's feedback and print them off, explaining the average costs of the Z31, non-turbo, non-anniversary edition! 6) Get Nissan to make a recommendation?? IDK, help me out! I've wished to own a Z for the longest time, and I am now in grasp! What really got me going was today one of my female friends got a 1990 240SX for $850!! Yes, it has some rust, but otherwise is running in perfect condition. It had a magnaflow exhaust installed, which made me laugh when she drove it off. Thanks for your guy's input, I am now going to research some more over the local dealerships for signs of any more Z's. ...My hunt has begun.

Holy shit dude, that's WAAAY tooo much for an n/a Z, it would make a nice transplant car, but I ended up paying like either 3,500 or 4,500 for my 89 turbo (which was in pretty damn good shape.... so I thought). I'd really try and bring em' down, that's seriously too much for that car (even though it does LOOK really nice).

Re: Rip Off Price of a 1989 300ZX, how to convince?
yeah i dunno man... looking at the kbb for the 89's it's up around 5k from a dealer in 'excellent' condition... which seems sick because the trade in value is 2k and the private party value is closer to 3.5k...
however the 89's are quite rare, only 3000 n/a's made and only 210 turbo's made, which is far less than the shiro's 1002... generally the later body styles go for more, but you'd be best of waiting for a turbo, as the n/a's are pretty useless when it comes to making decent power... you're best off buying private party... and don't even hope for a second that anything we say, or anyone else for that matter, will help budge a dealership's price... they're pretty fucking tightass about their prices generally, it'd take a miracle to get the car down to its actual value... if you can't find anything nearby, it's most definitely worth looking out of state.... and if you're looking for a friendlier group of people that are much more knowledgeable about z31's, check out www.88hybrid.com/forum you can't go wrong there, best group of z owners you'll ever meet on the net.

Re: Rip Off Price of a 1989 300ZX, how to convince?
gaahh, i found a nice 1986 turbo 300zx for i think 3500 or best offer, 190 miles from where i live. unfortunately theres probably no way im going to convince my mom to let me go and buy it, or take out a loan and get the Z. ..sigh.., idk what its going to take to break her stupid ignorance.

Re: Rip Off Price of a 1989 300ZX, how to convince?
yeah dude, my mom wasn't going to let me get another car unless it had airbags and some other stupid shit, so I started looking into z32s, which are nice and all, but a TT was wayyy out of my price range, and I'm actually glad that I stuck with the z31... there's just something about it that a z32 can't touch (shit, don't ask me what, cuz I can't explain it).
that turbo sounds okay, but only if the mileage on the 86 is decently low... ohh yeah, and 88hybrid.com or z31performance.com have a great group of z31 guys.

Re: Rip Off Price of a 1989 300ZX, how to convince?
There is a reason we refer to dealerships as stealerships.
$4000.00+ is pretty common for a z31 from a stealership. |
