Remote Locks
Did all 93 Jeep Grand Cherokees come with remote locks? If so is there a way to purchase a used remote and program it to work with a different vehicle?

Re: Remote Locks
1. Put key in ignition. Leave in off.
2. Open driver door, leave open throughout. 3. Manually push door lock button to "lock" position, not using electric door locks, just manually push lock button. 4. Turn ignition to "run" position. 5. Within 20 seconds, hold lock button on remote till remote LED flashes twice and electric door locks cycle on /off. 6. Within 20 seconds, push manual door lock back to "lock" position and press "lock" button on 2nd remote till it flashes twice and locks cycle again. 7. Turn ignition key to "off" position within 20 seconds. Up to four transmitters may be programmed to each receiver.

Great instructions, I am going to buy a used remote and give it a try. Did all Jeep Grand Cherokees come with remote locks?

Re: Remote Locks
93 Factory Service Manual page 8P-5 states the system is infrared.
Page 8P-6 says it's good for 1.9 meters, or 6 feet and that "The receiver and transmitter supplied with each vehicle are a matched set. Each matched set is supplied with a signal code that is unique. The code is shown on both the transmitter and receiver. Neither transmitter nor the receiver from one vehicle is interchangeable with the one from another vehicle."

Re: Remote Locks
I believe on the 93 model, if you look at the roof console, if there's a little black bulb-looking sensor about mid-ways back, then you have remote locks, as for *getting* a remote for it, I priced a brand-new replacement at a 'ship for about 180-200, or you can find them on eBay used for about 30-50, just have to re-train them using the instructions above. Have also seen some aftermarket (most noteably here: http://www.keylessride.com).

Re: Remote Locks
dealers around ohio get 125 for new remote. auto zone gets 95 for new. the buttons on the circuit board inside tend to separate when old. so beware when buying used!

Re: Remote Locks
I'm not so sure that those instructions work...I've tried that over and over with my new key and nothing seems to be happening...the dealership says that they charge $150 just to program the guys...how can they possibly charge that much if that's all that has to be done.
