I'm Gonna KILL WORDPAD

I was working on a story, and I had made a new file, and pressed the save button over and over and over again. My laptop overheats and shuts off (as it always does) and get this, I turn it on again, the file is there, 10kb of story, but first of all the wordwrap is gone so it's ONE BIG LINE across the page and second, it's all WHITESPACE CHARACTERS. I checked the font, and even changed it to red incase it was white, and long story short (don't say story) MY WORDS ARE ALL GONE, it's 10kb of whitespace characters.

Re: I'm Gonna KILL WORDPAD

So your mad because your overheating POS computer dropped a wordpad file...

First of all, fix your damn computer. That's your first problem and if you just let it keep overheating and shutting down, then you deserve to lose documents.

Second, nobody ever uses wordpad to write anything more important than a grocery list. Wise up and get some real software other than something that was made in '94.

Third, backup anything important to you. Even if it is a shitty wordpad file.

Yeah, wordpad is useless. As already mentioned OpenOffice can be used as an excellent substitute to MS Word (among others), and best of all its free. As for your overheating issue, take the case off the lappy (assuming this doesn't void any current warranties) and blow all the dust out. There's probably too much dust around the fans, hampering their cooling abilities.

I'm almost positive it was built with a fan that wasn't up to the test of time, and it's been replaced about 3 times now, Bestbuy warranty. For the record it usually works fine after being replaced for 2 weeks, then it goes back to constant crashing. Name one person with an M6805 or M6807 that has never had my problem and I'll accept it's not the factory fan. I've learned to ventilate it more and it still shuts off. I didn't use the cooling pad because if you think about it, it's usb powered which gets your laptop to work overtime more.

@l_eclipse_l
could you say that again? all I saw was a long line of whitespace characters.

Re: I'm Gonna KILL WORDPAD

if your laptop is overheating, then i would get a notebook cooler, you can get them for around 20 bucks, and they work fairly well, this computer runs much cooler because of the one i got for it over a year ago, word pad works, but id rather use office, but i dont like the price

Re: I'm Gonna KILL WORDPAD

Why doesn't anyone like Wordpad, is it because it crashes a lot? I still don't understand how one crash messes up an RTF file but my uncle who has been a networker for years told me that when a computer crashes, the rules change, which means to me you never know what could happen.

Why would Word work better then wordpad, that's all I'm asking.

Auto save and recovery features for a start.

Your "networker" uncle told you when computers crash, the rules change?

That pretty much says it all.

Re: I'm Gonna KILL WORDPAD

You can do more with word than pad, i like the easy-ness of pad, but word is so much better, more things to work with and stuff, thats why i like it

Re: I'm Gonna KILL WORDPAD

i grew up on word, so im used to it. i got the 2004 edition. its decent. yes it costs money for most people, but my parents being dumb people went out and bought the students & teachers edition. can put onto 3 computers or so. so i use it. dont use wordpad for anything important. i think the only thing i use wordpad for now is to edit my text files so i can transfer them to the school without having to worry my layout wont change. that and using layout html codes to use my own images and things for things like myspace and facebook.
