Scratch Built Street Rod: Parts 2 (Updated: 12/19/06)

I thought I'd create a new thread since a lot of people were having a hard time keeping up with what is currently happening. A quick breifing on whats going on; 1/12 scale scratch built street rod, mostly out of styrene, 100% scratch built.

Got a lot of work done on the driver side lower control arm. Machined out of 9 seperate pieces and soldered together with about 13 hours of work at this point.

The shock mounts in the gap with a pin that goes through. The pin is a zero tolerance fit and is hidden once it is put in. It sticks in the hole well, but it also comes out with a nice tap. Note the beginning of the working ball joint half soldered to the bottom half. The inside still needs more solder, and finishing.

Next I will assemble the upper control arm, also machined out of brass. After spring break I will finish machining the passenger side control arms.

Wow! I can only say that I'm impressed! Wonderful execution of the zero-tolerance pin. Chip would be proud!

Wow, looks pretty good. Have you primed any of your stuff yet, by any chance?

Re: Scratch Built Street Rod: Parts 2

Nice.

Not much to add, since this type of building is so far ahead of anything I could do. Watching, admiring, and learning. Been really enjoying all your posts since this whole thing started!

Good luck with the rest of it!

I havent really primed anything. A little light shot on part of the new frame, but most of it was sanded off. I'll probably wait until the end to prime anything.

Nice? That's a stellar job: far from anything I'll imagine to do: congrats, Mike fantastic.

primer: I tried with my crap (mostly alu but also some few brass pieces) some Mr. Hobby/Gunze metal primer with great paint results

I'll be posting some more pictures this evening. I was lucky to get a lot of stuff done yesterday, but some stuff still needs to be finished. So stay tuned.

Here are a few quick pics of the new frame.

I still need to add the clip that attaches to the front in that last picture. I will be working on that tonight and tomorrow, and also finishing up the rear Ford 9"
