Xenon extra-bright bumbs - worth it or not?

Are these Xenon extra bright bulbs that various companies sell worth the money or not? They claim to give between 30% and 50% more light, which they say translates to an extra 20 meters extra lighted up road.

The question is - are these claims true, and are the worth installing?

I guess if you stick to the same bulb wattage then it is a totally safe upgrade. I've read that if you install higher-wattage bulbs then you risk melting the headlights or wiring harness, neither of which is exactly desirable...

The bulbs do work. The only thing is that life expectancy isn't that long. I've tried the Hiper Industries Super Plazma Bulbs and they put out a whole lot more light(blusish light very nice). The only thing is that they are higher wattage 12v85/80w----->130/100w. One of them did burn out in three months. Now I'm trying the PIAA Super Plazmas 65/55w---->130/110w. I'm putting them on tonight to check them out I'll post my results later. The reason I bought the bulbs is because they're guaranteed for 1 year. But they're also twice as much as the Hiper Industries. Check out http://autobulbdepot.com thye have descent prices.

:finger: :finger: :finger: :finger: :finger: :finger: I hate the PIAA super plasmas. They can suck my.........Freaking rip off........

Now that I let the anger go.....the PIAA's(Super Plasmas) are horrible. Of cousre they're much better than the stock, but they suck against the Hiper Industries bulbs. The Pissss bulbs have a purplish hue to them and blind the shit out of oncoming traffic. I stood on the curb while my friend drove the G(no other choice). The glare would not let you see 5 feet around the car. The only good thing about them is that they can fool the average person into thinking that they are real HID's. But lets face it no bulb can come close to the light output of a real HID system. So to conclude the Pissss bulbs suck. I would never try any other PIAA bulb out there.

9004 Bulb types

I would be carefull using any Bulb with a higher wattage than stock. Ive used various types of Xenon bulbs in both my Gs and the sockets will melt over time. Or i would recommend going to an Auto parts store and buying new, lower guage 9004 harnesses.

Convert the file to JPEG format - that will compress the image to a fraction of its original filesize.

*Ground switched systems require a special harness

IF YOU ARE NOT SURE IF YOUR VEHICLE IS GROUND SWITCHED OR NOT YOU MUST PERFORM THE FOLLOWING TEST BEFORE ORDERING A HARNESS. ATTEMPTING TO ATTACH A REGULAR HARNESS TO A GROUND SIDE SWITCHED VEHICLE OR THE OTHER WAY AROUND CAN CAUSE DAMAGE!

PROCEDURE FOR TESTING FOR GROUND SIDE SWITCHING

Head Lamp Configuration A: THREE WIRES FOR HIGH BEAM AND LOW BEAM WITH ONE WIRE BEING COMMON (such as H4 and 9004 systems):

1. Disconnect your original harness from your head lamp or head lamp bulb. Use an automotive test light clipped to ground to check if each of the three wires is a ground or a hot.

2. Have a helper sit in the driver seat and switch the headlights from low to high while you move the test light probe from terminal to terminal on the harness plug.

3. You should find that one of the wires either stays constantly grounded or is constantly hot (this wire will always be the same whether low or high beams are on).

4. If ANY wire is constantly hot, you have a ground side switched system AND WILL REQUIRE A SPECIAL "GROUND SWITCHED" STYLE HARNESS. If the wire is constantly grounded, a regular harness will work.
