manually controlling the fans

hello all. im hoping someone here will be able to help me. i have an aftermarket (canned tune) PCM. this pcm is set to work with a 180 degree thermostat, however i choose to keep my stock 195 in. needless to say, my cooling fans a pretty much always on. i could send it the pcm back for a change and be without a car for who knows how long. i could just get a new/different pcm with settings to my liking, however i dont have $100 for this project. it would be much cheaper for me to buy some wire, and a couple toggle switchs, and maybe another part or 2

im basically wondering which wires i should splice into for the toggle switch(s). should i just splice right into the wiring harness at the fan shroud, or is there a certain wire on a relay i could splice into without setting an SES??

any input will help, thanks!

Re: manually controlling the fans

Is there a reason you kept the 195 stat? Seems the easiest and most logical would be to put a 180 in it. If it gets cold where you live in the winter, then change it back in Nov. It takes about 2 minutes to change a t-stat in a 3800. Just my

Re: manually controlling the fans

Yeah, I've kept my 180* in for a long time and it does suck in the winter. I'm definitely going to swap the 195* back in for this winter so my car doesn't take two hours to warm up.

The best method of control and safety on electrical components is via the cooling fan relays. There are a total of 3 but you should use a GM wiring diagram to properly connect the wiring.

Anyone have the instruction sheet on the ZZP kit? I wonder if the kit taps into the relays at the main fuse box.

Note: Although it may look like the cooling fans run all the time they probably don't once you get going with proper airflow to the radiator/engine and the fans are inhibited for turn on at speeds around 40 mph and up.
