radio dies in gear, air/heater unit runs after off

my 2000 expedition was dead this morning, after sitting only for one day. had to get jump start, when i drove the truck the radio went completely out and the warning lights and bell started. when i turn the truck off the heater unit stills runs, i've turn it off and on without the key. and i also heard some type of cranking noise as if the truck was trying to start itself. any suggestions as what the problem might be.

Check your battery and starter connections. If the battery is weak, replace it. A bad battery can cause alot of strange problems.

Re: radio dies in gear, air/heater unit runs after off

Thanks for the help, right now it appearts to be fine. I had the cables cleaned, the altenator checked, the charging system look at and some more. The problem from what I had been reading in other post was probably water in the fuse box. I did see where the seal at the bottome of the windshield is lifted and with all the rain that came that weekend it most likely got in.

Re: radio dies in gear, air/heater unit runs after off

I'm guessing this happened after a big rainstorm. My 2001 EXP did the same thing. I found a TSB some where that talked about a leak around the windshield on the drivers side pillar. The water runs down and settles into the fuse box. Eventually the fuse box will corrode and you will have to replace it. The only fix for this is to replace the windshield per the TSB. I had this done by one of those mobile windshield services for $200.00 bucks. No more problem.

Same problem here with the leak on the drivers side post, but I fixed it for 4 bucks with a tube of flowable Silicon from the auto parts store. Now, no problems.......
