Jeep shaking badly need advice!

My Jeep is a 2000 Cherokee Sport. Whenever I hit a bump at 55 to 60 mph it shakes very badly. It has gotten to the point where the front end starts shaking so bad that I have to come to a complete stop to gain control again. If anyone has any advice I would be very grateful!! Thanks!

Check your alignment. Check the steering stabilizer.

Jack up the front (one side at a time) and shake the wheel (not too hard) and see if there's any looseness or play. It should rotate smoothly but nothing esle.

Re: Jeep shaking badly need advice!

I too had the "DW" in my 2000 XJ, but it was after I put a 2" lift on it. Took it into get an alignment and it fixed the problem. Also check ALL of the componants in the front end, doesn't hurt to go through and tighten EVERY nut and bolt, especially the control arms and track bar. Good luck.

Unhappy death wobble

ok i have a 2000 cherokee sport and have gone thru this problem....we were told the steering stabalizer...wrong.....we were told alignment...wrong......you know what cured the problem of course after the jeep spent 2 months at the dealer with everyone just shrugging their sholders.....they replaced the brakes...pads and rotors...problem solved and sure enough it happend again we just had to have them turned. I now have found out that it is little secret from dodge that the rotors warp easily best thing to do if you can afford them is to replace the rotors with drilled or vented rotors less heat and we got ceramic pads.....i hope this helped you some i was soooo frustrated

Also try Bendix rotors, mine had 93K on the rotors before I replaced them with the bendix rotors, and carbon metallic pads. regained the stopping power I went too long with out.

Yes. I have had 86, 88 and now have 89. Track Bar is the cause of the DW's. This stablizes the front end drive and the overhead alighnment of the body. It links the axle and the lower portion of the driver side front engine mount. The loosenes takes only about 1/8 - 3/16 of an inch but gives upward almost a quarter turn on your wheel.

This makes you have to over correct and DW's happen on left curving and bumps. LOL love it!

My 1990 did the wobble as soon as it hit 55, well i kept on driving it (BAD IDEA) and the tire blew from being so unbalanced and screwed up. Slid on the rotor 150 feet, got rear-ended and lost the rim too, never did find it, neither did the insurance people...... the moral of the story, Wobble= Bad

Re: Jeep shaking badly need advice!

Had the same problem on my 93 Cherokee sport. I had the front end shaking so much that I thought the windshield was going to shatter. I had several alignments done and none of them made a difference. The only thing that stopped the problem was replaceing the tires. Another suggestion was to look at the steering dampener.

Good luck
