Check engine light
I have a 99 Taurus se and the check engine light came on about 10 days ago. I had only gotton my emissions done on it about 6 weeks ago, so I was kind of surprised. But with all the luck I have had with this car its not surprising.
Anyway I got the code read and Im trying to find out what needs fixing or replacing. Code Read : PO443 Evaporative Emission Control Valve Circuit malfunction Ive only had this car for a couple of months, bought it from a dealer, who I would never recomend anyone too. I have had heat and a/c problems and an annoying odor everytime I open the vents. I thought it was some kind of exhuast fumes but got it checked and was told that the exhaust/muffler were fine. They said the smell was some kind of cleaner/leak detector from the a/c? I was told it would go away after a little while, well it still hasnt gone and I get a headache everytime I turn the fan on. I dont know if any of this has anything to do with the emission/check engine light. I would greatly appreciate any help, advice or recomendations. |

Get yourself a repair manual, such as Haynes, at you local parts store. The following link has a good theoretical explanation.
