Japanese License Plate Guide

Since a pronounced trend on this board is towards building Japanese cars, I thought I'd share this page I found that tells all about the Japanese license plate conventions.

Motor Vehicle Registration System of Japan

I don't know about you guys, but I hate the kit-supplied plates that tend to have a number that's the car's engine's displacement... (2000, 1800, 3000, etc...) This should provide enough info to paste together your own designs for plates and print them out. Important note: the standard civilian plates are green print on white, not black on white...

It also taught me about the little seal that goes over the left screw on the rear plate that says the registration is valid. I'll have to remember to put that on my kits. Also check out the light up premium plates. :coolguy: That would make a cool project for our electronically inclined members.

It also explains the inspection stickers for the windshields.

One thing, though... are the white backgrounds flat white, or reflective, like Scotchlite? They always look flat, but I'm so used to reflective plates from the U.S.
