New Oil Pan already???

My gf has a 2000 tiby with only 55k on it right now...5spd. She loves the car but there is a slight oil leak that we've been noticing. She brought it to a friend of the family and they told her that the oil pan is rusted...ok we live in ny which is a battle in the winter with any car in the first place but for a car with 55k on it that has only had rust on the hood..how would the oil pan be rusted to the point of leakage? Gonna get under it soon to take a look for myself but i was wondering if anyone else had this problem too.

Re: New Oil Pan already???

Never heard of that problem, but you never know I suppose. I have a '99 Elantra (5-speed) with almost 76k miles and have never had any problems with the oil pan.
