Tamiya Mercedes 600SEL, is it rare?

Just like the title says, is this a rare model?

Never seen one before, it has full engine detail too. Anyone know if it's rare or not? Not really a big deal if it is or isn't, just curious. Thanks in advance!

It's very rare and I'd really love one at a decent price. Why are you asking?

Maybe it depends where you are as to whether it's rare

I wouldn't call it rare, i would call it expensive though! I have the AMG version here to build, and i've built the regular one twice. Its a great kit.

Re: Tamiya Mercedes 600SEL, is it rare?

Hmmm, interesting thoughts. Thanks for your input guys. Maybe not rare then, just not exactly common? The reason why I had asked is because I had shown that model in the picture to my cousin while it was on ebay. He ordered it immediately and received it a few days ago. He brought it over last night so we could start building it (2007 TamiyaCon entry). Well, if it IS in fact rare, we pretty much destroyed it last night (intentionally). Look for an upcoming thread in WIP-Street and you'll see what I mean. I wanna post pics of what we did, but I'll leave that to him. And yes, it wasn't exactly cheap LOL Thanks again!

Re: Tamiya Mercedes 600SEL, is it rare?

Almost none of the Tamiya kits are rare, except for the molds that have been modified to produce variations. Those S-class Mercedes kits, SEL, SEC and AMG variations, haven't been reissued for a while, but that doesn't mean they will never be produced again.
I picked up the same kit for about $25 a few years ago, and I can get it now for about $35.

Re: Tamiya Mercedes 600SEL, is it rare?

Well that's good to know. I guess the main reason I wanted to know if it's rare or not is because of the plans for this project. Since it isn't exactly rare, I don't feel as bad for destroying a perfectly good model.
