3.4 liter motor

Recently purchased 95 camaro 3.4 liter. New to these cars; what to expect? What problems do these cars have and these 3.4 liter motors have?
Someone told me they have a known problems with intake gaskets, maybe related to the good ole dexcool.

Re: 3.4 liter motor

the 3.4 is a all round good motor. It is not the best for performance but it is reliable. The gasket thing is from pontiac's 3.4 they put in the grand am's not the same one as the camaro's. How manny miles you got on it? there is not manny problems with them. Just normal crap you would replace. My dad has a 95 camaro with 3.4 and his has 105,000 and his is starting to pass oil through the valve seals. I think this is just because the people that had it befor him did not change the oil often. But i think you will be very happy with the 3.4 the only thing is there not so much for power.

Re: 3.4 liter motor

Mine has 100,000 miles and still seems potent. Believe it is also passing a small amout of oil but am getting ready to do first oil change and do not know what oil previous owner used. Has puralator filter. Car has five speed manual trans but do not know gear size yet; how is this found without jacking car up and rotating driveshaft and calculating? Car isn`t real fast but plenty fast enough for my wife to get a speeding ticket already.

Re: 3.4 liter motor

some one on here can help you with the gear question, you go to about say 50mph and see what rpm you are at and you type that in at this site and your tire size and it will tell you your gear's. Someone on here will tell you the site, i don't know it off hand. And the oil thing is most likely the valve seals, they seem to go out on these. Just run highmile oil and some lucus oil treatment and that should slow it down some.

Re: 3.4 liter motor

Well right around 120k miles (which was last October), my water pump gasket gave out. If you notice your coolant level getting low, or your car getting higher than 220* frequently, then definitely check out that seal. They're paper thin, even the new one I put on was so ridiculously thin that I refused to put it on without putting a thin layer of silicone gasket maker on both sides of it. Then after that, one or more of my ignition coils went out, so I just replaced all 3 of em with some spares I had. After that my starter went out... Oh, and I've got a minor oil leak, i lose about 1/2 a quart every 3k miles. Haven't had any major issues with the car yet though. Just minor things that are common to go out. Depending on how the previous owner(s) took care of the car, it should be really dependable for ya. Heck I use mine to deliver pizza in and it drives great with 130k on the clock now.
