Wiper Motor Bad?

97 GPGT 3.8 116,000.
Hi, I'm having a problem with my wipers not retracting properly and staying at the 12 O-clock position when I turn the wiper switch off. When turned on, the wipers run normally. After running a search on here I pulled the cowl and made sure that that metal tab was at the 90 degree angle, which it is. I really don't want to deal with the dealership with this prob if i don't have to.
Could this be a bad "wiper motor"? Or perhaps a bad "wiper motor pulse board module"? Either one or the other, or both? I've had a few people tell me it's the motor, however, why would the wipers run normally when the switch is on? The switch has already been ruled out as the problem for the most part. I'm stumped and would really appreciate some advice on this before I start buying parts blindly.
Thanks in advance.....

Re: Wiper Motor Bad?

I agree Paul the actual wiper motor sounds good but the wipers are not retracting to the park position possibly due to the controller module or a mechanical problem. When you turn the wiper switch to off do the wipers try to go to the park (home) position or do they just stop?

Re: Wiper Motor Bad?

Hi Bob, yea they start down maybe an inch , then they stop. I found a remanufactored wiper motor for 89 bucks at Autozone that includes the pulse board module. I'm trying to decide to go ahead with that or not.

Re: Wiper Motor Bad?

Yeah, I'd go with a replacement wiper motor assembly since it is all one unit. It doesn't sound mechanical since there is no attempt to go all the way to park. Even the TSB/recall GM had out on the 97 model wiper problem wouldn't be applicable. BTW - The part is AZ is a satisfactory deal considering the GM List price is around $300. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
