Re: no spark when its cold
If you have a 12v logic probe check for pulse at the coil from the distributor pickup.
If it doesn't the pickup is bad in the dist. The temp. sensor tells the computer the temp of the engine this could need cleaned scale on coolant side. Check oxygen sensors if they heat. |

Re: no spark when its cold
well i went out and tried to start it was about 40 degrees when i tried it and it wouldnt start so i took a blow dryer and heated up the computer and it fired right up no problems, so i'm guessing its the computer.

Re: no spark when its cold
I currently have this same problem, with my 90 Dodge B350/318. There is a signal from the distributor. Just like kilroy357, I heat up the computer with a heat gun, and it starts and runs normally. I would like to avoid replacing the computer, since the van is hardly worth the effort or expense. Does anyone have an idea of what to check next? The auto shut down relay is known to be OK.

Re: no spark when its cold
I would unplug the computer and get a small drill bit the same size as the pins on the plug. I would check the female end for loose fittings where there is slop in the plug. I think the temperature sweels the pins slightly and the vehicle runs. Also clean the connectors with electrical contact cleaner.
Try just warming the plug and see what happens. |
