HELP!!! I don't know what's wrong with my car!

For a few weeks now, my Neon has been having some problems that I feel may all be related. First the electrical in the car started flickering and dying out and then coming back on. That includes the cd player, all the lights inside the car, the meters and the head lights. They dim in and out at first and then start to go haywire dying and coming back on. Then I noticed that this was happening in conjunction with a kicking I was feeling in the engine.

Recently, the engine started kicking really bad along with the lights going haywire again and now my battery light comes on afterward periodically.

Today, my car started doing it again, kicking and going haywire and then it simply died. I had to restart it while at a stop light. It started fine and I made it home without any problem. I started it again an hour later without any problem again.

What is going on? Does any one have an idea? I thought it might be the alternator but it starts without any problem. So I don't even know where to begin! HELP!
