Please help. I don't know what to do.
All suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have a 2001 740il. First i took it to a dealer because the temperature gauge showed that the car was running slightly hot. Dealer claimed i had a leaky radiator. Dealer replaced it. 3-4 months later car had same symptoms. Now cowardly me takes the car some place else. They claim the car needed a thermostat. They replace thermostat. One day later, car runs hot and leaves me stranded. I take it back to the second place. They said oh we think the overflow box has a slight leak and the fan switch is faulty. They replace both of them. They call me to say, car is no longer running hot BUT the temperature gauge immediately goes to the "hot" zone everytime the car is turned on. This is not something that I had seen prior to them working on the car. They proceed to tell me that if they can't fix the problem, I will have to take it to a dealer. I am bleeding money here especially with a daily rental car. Please coach me through how to handle this and get my car back in one piece.

Re: Please help. I don't know what to do.
Wow, go back to the dealer/others and tell them the car still has the problem. I would have told any mechanic that tells me it's your radiator to make sure that's it or I want my money back if the problem persists after the job is done. This makes them know I'm not going to let them rip me off and so they make sure they tell me the truth. I would tell either of those that you took it to that you want the fixed or money or see you in court! I hate it when mechenics do things like this to people. Hope someone else can help you get your car running. Try some other forum cause this one does not seem to have to many people looking. Or they just don't know or don't want to help, I don't know what's up here.

may be a temp switch, or an open circut you if the car is not acually running hot then it should be ok to drive it, but dont travel to far to fast in case they are lieying you going to want to take it back to a dealer or some place that knows what the hell they are doing. a dealer will stand behind what they do a independant dosnt. take it back to the first dealer and tell them this is what has happend since you replaced the radiator. try that.

That car has an electronic thermostat in it. Problems with that that i have seen are the thermostats start to leak up through the wire plug the coolant can travel all the way through the wiring harness to the fuses located in the e box. Your BMW dealer should be aware of this problem and should have the wire harness repair kit in stock my dealer had a large supply of them and told me it was becoming a common problem. But hten again they should have checked that the first time you had it there
