lights come on by themselves

lastnight went out to the truck, got something out of it, shut the door and the taillights were on - i went out there opened up the drivers side door and closed it, then the lights turned off - then my wife went out this morning, and the taillights were on again - any clues???

My first guess is that it's something about the switch that's depressed when you press the brake pedal.

Best Regards,
Stan

Yes, the brake light switch located close to the top of the brake pedal is bad. It has a connector to the wiring harness, unplug and pull the switch towards the front of the truck to remove it from the holder.

Install the new one (put it in the holder all the way, reconnect the wiring and press the brake pedal down as far as you can, this will reset the switch)
