2004 cruiser door lock programming

i need to know how to program the different settings for the auto door locks.

i see in the manual there are 4 settings for the doors and i want to set them to automatically unlock when i put the car in park.

problem is the instructions in the manual do not work.

they say:

put on parking brake
close doors
turn key to "on"
put car in park
press and hold down the drivers side door lock rear of switch for 5 seconds within 10 seconds of turing on the key

i do this and nothing happens.

anyone go some advise?
