Location of Headlight Relay 1994 Cherokee?
Argh... I figure the relay went bad, as the lights no longer go off by themselves after shutting the engine off and the battery therefore dies overnight...
I bought one, but can't figure out where the hell it's located. Ideas? Thanks, AB |

Re: Location of Headlight Relay 1994 Cherokee?
Why did they make the diagram as if you are looking through the firewall from the engine compartment?? From that cockeyed perspective, it appears that the relay is somewhere in the driver's footwell, right? Given the roughly cube-shaped relay the guy at Napa gave me, I can't find anything down there that resembles what I've got.
So, a friend of mine suggested I at least pull the headlamp fuse so I can charge the battery, but they aren't marked!!! Any ideas on which fuse is which??? And, seriously, thanks for taking the time to help me. Kind regards, AB |

Lets back up a second...
If you got a relay that is square and cost like 10-20 bucks...it is probably not the "headlight delay module".... So to get it right and so that we are on the same page...are you talking about leaving the headlights on and getting out of the car and then they turn off automatically after 30 seconds? If the headlights won't turn off when you push the switch in BEFOE you shut off the engine....that is something else. I have another souce of information that says the "delay module is under dash by the headlite switch"...93MY... |

Re: Location of Headlight Relay 1994 Cherokee?
Okay, from the beginning: The Jeep went dead after a period of probably two weeks without being started. I jumped it and it worked for some time with being run consistently, but then died again. After this pattern being repeated for a few cycles, and then it not even being able to be jumped anymore, I had it towed to a local shop. They said it was the battery and alternator, which they replaced. It worked for a short time and the problem came back. I then took it to a place that specialized in electrical issues and they said the starter was shorted out and was draining the battery. It worked fine for some time after that until another extended period in which the Jeep was never started. When I went to jump it I noticed that the headlights came on immediately, without being switched on, and the Jeep wouldn't jump, which I assumed was because the lights were draining too much of the jump power (the battery is stone dead.) I also noticed that the lights stayed on until all power that had been charged into the battery from the jump process drained away.
I did a little research, which told me that the delay relay could be shorted out (the other alternative is the switch itself, which was much costlier.) So, I called the local Napa shop, which sold me a "delay relay" for about $11. And that's where I'm at. Thanks, AB |

Re: Location of Headlight Relay 1994 Cherokee?
Do you mean a headlight delay? Yes, it used to wait for 30 seconds or so before it shut off its own headlights.
Thanks, AB |

OK...
On my 93 service information, the "delay module is under dash by the headlite switch"...93 MY Vehicle XJ Service manual. Other info: http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...3d80153e8f.jsp FIG. 46 |

Re: Location of Headlight Relay 1994 Cherokee?
You know what??? Now all the questions about relay locations, fuses, etc. are moot. I went out and bought an expensive battery charger that said it wasn't even connecting, so I took the battery out and put it on the counter and tried it again, all to no avail. Figuring the charger was bad, I went back and bought another expensive charger, which says that the battery is shot. The battery less than one year old, and, as I said earlier, was replaced when the alternator was replaced.
So, the problem has compounded... Even if I go out and replace the battery, I've still got all the other issues in a holding pattern waiting to jump my shit as soon as anything else goes right... Anyway, still would like to know anything about the location of the relay or the headlight fuse. Thanks, AB |

Wow...
I'll work with you tomorrow. Let's restart here...do you have an owner's manual with fuse locations? |

Re: Location of Headlight Relay 1994 Cherokee?
Good enough. I'm going to go out tomorrow morning and talk with the folks who "fixed" it the first time with the new batter and alternator. Then, assuming they're no use, I'm going to buy a new battery and start from there.
Thanks, AB |

Re: Location of Headlight Relay 1994 Cherokee?
One final note:
Fuses and stuff are easy to find..but the issues need to be identified by a process of checking some basic things. Best regards...i do montior this site most days...Pacifiic time... |
