Power window doesn't work

Power window stopped going up suddenly. I still heard the motor running when the button was switched in the up and down position but no window movement. I can push the window up and down by hand with a slight amount of resistance. Popped off the door panel and felt around inside. The cables seem to be intact and lined up on the pulley ok. When activating the up /down switch with my hand on the pulley I feel no movement at all even thought the motor seems to be operating. It's not like somethings stuck and trying to move, I feel nothing at all. It might be my imagination or the fact that the door cover is off and things are louder but it seems that the motor sound a little rough. My feeling is that whatever links the the motor and pulley may be broken. Or the motor might be shot. Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Power window doesn't work

It sounds like your regulator may be broken and the motor itself may
already be toast. Remove the regulator and motor together and examine
them. The regulator wire may be shredded and the motor housing may
have come apart.

Also, call the dealership to see if there are any open recalls/campaigns open
on your vehicle. It wont matter how old your vehicle is--if there is an open
campaign or recall on your vehicle the dealer has to do it.

Xterras in your vintage are reknowned for having weak window regulators.
Once the regulator cable begins disintegrating it eventually takes the motor
with it.
I hope this is helpful.

Re: Power window doesn't work

I believe there is a recall on specific years of Xterra power windows.

Indeed, and some research here, on Google, or *gasp* Nissan's website will have the details.
