transmission crossmember bar-covered under warranty?
I have a bent transmission cross member bar and was wondering if this could be covered under warranty?

any ideas on how hard it is going to be to replace this crossmember? The transmission is making a little grinding noise at low speeds in drive around 5 to 30 mpg then quites down. any suggestions?

Hmmmm....I pulled the crossmember that the torsion bar anchors attach to once. Two bolts on each side of the frame as I remember. The bitch was one of the bolts stripped on removal (had to replace) and there was rust between the frame and crossmember. This made it extremely hard to get out, even with the bolts gone. You could probably do it yourself (unless there is something additional at the transmission crossmember)

Ok, I checked. Yes it appears that the transmission is supported by the crossmember. I couldn't tell if this was additional support, or if it's the primary load bearing member. My guess is you could support it with a jack while removing the crossmember, but you'll probably get a better feeling for what you're comfortable after crawling underneath.
Oh, I'm sure you're aware of this, but if it's caused by driver error it will not be covered under warranty. Only if it's a defect caused by Nissan. |

thanks for your help, i looked under the truck today and I am going to have to replace this bar. $58 for the crossmember and $76 for the mounting bracket. Heat sheild is loose also but I think that I fixed most of the rattling by pushing up on the heat sheild. Still have a little vibration when I first start out in drive but then it stops when I get up around 50 mpg or so. Hopefully the new crossmember and mount with stop hte vibration.
thanks for all your help chef:flash: |
