(Slightly) Wider Tires for my Accord?

I have an 04 Accord EX CP and it's about time for new tires. I was thinking of upgrading the original 205 60 16 and going a little wider to 225 60 16. I was told by a tire store salesman that changing tire sizes from original is not advised as it can conflict with ABS components.

Any thoughts on this? It seems to me that I'm not making a radical change from factory spec and I see late modle cars all over the street with very obvious changes from original sizes. Are all these guys doing something wrong??

As long as all 4 tires are the same size the ABS system will be ok.

Re: (Slightly) Wider Tires for my Accord?

In addition to being wider, 225/60/16 will have a larger diameter (and circumference) than the original tires -- in addition to contributing to speedometer error (your speedo will be slow, and your odometer short), the larger tire may scrub the inner fenderwells or make contact with your strut towers.

Sidewall height (mm) should remain less or about the same:

225/50/16 -- (225 x .50) 112.5mm

235/50/16 -- (235 x .50) 117.5mm

205/60/16 -- (205 x .60) 123mm

225/55/16 -- (225 x .55) 123.75mm*

225/60/16 -- (225 x .60) 135mm

*maybe a better choice

The wheel/tire combination diameter will change by double the sidewall height difference if the wheel size stays the same, whereas the ride height will change by the difference in the sidewall height such that the shorter sidewall will lower the car, and create more fender to tire gap.

Any particular reason you want to go with a wider tire? out of curiosity...

If you pick up a set of 205/55-16's they will have the same overall diamiter as stock, and therefore no effect on abs or your spedo.

i dont see the point of going wider, but it isn't going to hurt anything...
