strang noises
i have 95.5 rodeo with 181811 miles. runs ex ,pass smog with flying colors, has good oil pressure, cant tell its running at an idle real smooth. oil pressure is 80 psi driving and 40 at an idle.just wanted to know what causes it to get in the motor at about 2500-2700 rpms,or just about the time you get ready to shift. maybe just the way these motors are.only had it about a month. i heard that they had problems with piston slap, thought maybe had bearings getting worn out.put under a load theres no noise or knock of any kind, always has good oil pressure.i hear it more with the windows up and not so much with the windows down.also was wondering what causes the clutch petal to get a little vibration, i have never had a hydralic clutch ever do that usally the fluid cushions it.you can feel something wierd if if you hold the rpms about 1500 or up and push and release the clutch or when you get ready to shift if your rpms are that or more if less you dont feel nothing either way driving or stoped.it only has 15000 miles on the clutch.i bought it with a bad trans.reciepts in the glove box showed it had a new clutch pressure plate release bearing pilot bearing and resurfaced flywheel.when i put the trans in the clutch still looked good ,i didnt take it apart i just looked.a friend of mine has a 95 rodeo he replaced his clutch and said he has the same weird feel/vibration in his and that it didnt before.i know a lot of vehicles have differnt cararisticts with them that are normal just alittle annoying if you buy one and dont know that.other than that runs good.also do the make any lift kits,suspenion/body for these.thanks for youre help.

Re: strang noises
Sounds like your timing belt tensioner may be due for replacement, typically knock at around 2,500 rpm's. When they start to go, they sound similar to a rod knocking - many believe the engine is about to fail.
If it's original, or even the 2nd timing belt & tensioner, may be due for replacement. Just went through this myself on the same engine, only it's a '97 with 163k miles, mine too had started with weird metallic clicking sounds between 2-3k rpm's. It was my waterpump failing, causing my timing belt tensioner to weaken and putting slack in the timing belt itself.

Re: strang noises
i used a stethascope around the engine and reall didnt pinpoint the sound.it sounds like its in the rear or middle of motor.the closest i could find with the sescope was the alt/power steeringbelt idler adjuster.but standing in front or side of motor still sounds elsewhere but the front.its not really a knock kinda like a deep down growling like rattleing vibration quieter knock sound put all together, kinda like if you held your throttle wide open and held it there or at top end and kinda rocked the throttle back and forth, that noise, kinda hard to explain.that why i thought it maybe piston slap/vibration with high mile motor.im probally wrong i hope.any more ideas if i check the timing belt and tensioner and thats not it.sticker on inside of hood said belt was changed at 61795 and the motor has 181811miles on it now.the vehicle is real clean and the service records that i found proball not all of them seems that it was always maintained, went to change the spark plugs yesterday and found they were new and they were ngk iradium plugs $14.99 a plug so the owner wasnt cheep.also the trans had been rebuilt 17000 miles back its a 5 spd there was receipt in glove box $2995.00 for the rebuild an clutch parts.but when i bought at an auction the trans was blown (counter gear/front imput shaft bearing) shop put wrong grade oil 90 wt gear oil instead of motor oil that a real good shop for you.proball spending that money and high miles is probally why it ended up in the towing yard auction had to much into it. so the other owner always had it serviced so i would think the motor would be the best it could be i hope. i dont know if this info maybe helps just in case the belt and tensioner isnt bad. thanks
