87 Subaru dl starting problem

I have an 87 subaru dl with 1.8 engine. Distributer is early model year type, i.e. late 1986. The problem is that it starts good when cold. After the engine gets hot it doesn't want to start off of the starter but will always start if drift started. It runs good as long as you want. Just won't start when hot. Battery good and starter doesn't seem to drag and it spins the motor fine. New coil, cap and roter. Talked to a couple mechanics and they don't know what to suggest. Any ideas?

Re: 87 Subaru dl starting problem

Check a service manual, see what they say about the Charcoal Canister. It's supposed to absorb excessive gasoline vapors from the fuel lines and such. If it's not doing its job, the engine can be difficult to start, especially when hot.

Re: 87 Subaru dl starting problem

I was wondering if it could be the negative power cable that is showing a little copper at the place it connects to the post.
