87 Camry no spark... HELP! :(
1987 Camry, 4 cylinder, automatic.
Old engine had 265,000 miles on it. Oil starvation, seized. Swapped in one from another Camry, 200,000 miles. Cranks, has fuel pressure, but no spark! ![]() ... There is a connector on top of the distributor that I assume sends power (wires come from ignitor, and are in perfect condition). I'm talking about the black wire with the red stripe, and the white wire with the black stripe. The "black" wire I'm getting 12V... the white one I'm getting only 5.5v?! Is that normal? I'm getting NO voltage at the actual ignition coil, because they're both receiving POSITIVE leads... as in I put one volt meter lead on ground, and either one of the + or - terminals on the coil will give me 12V... ![]() Primary coil impedance is a bit out of the .4-.5 range... it's .7-.9 (but the 265k motor, the one that died while still running, measured the same...but ran!) Secondary coil impedance were in spec. As with the little 3-clip connectors... 170ohms. I'm dumbfounded. The ignitor has a brown and yellow wire, which I was told to be the resistor wire. It has supposed to have 1.2ohms... I'm not getting anything at all :-\ Oh, and the insulation seems to be fine. No reading at all from the cast aluminum case to the coil terminals... No oil leaks either. HELP!

Re: 87 Camry no spark... HELP! :(
I suggest you download the Toyota factory service manual stickied at the top of this forum's home page. It should give you the information you need to troubleshoot this problem. Download the generation 2 manuals. Here's the link, just in case you are having trouble finding it:
