venting

ahahaha you probably thought i was talking about bov's venting huh? nooo im talking about letting off steam about my GODDAMN car. i fucking HATE dsms. I am so unbelievably pissed off.

i recently got a evo3 manifold from turbochargers.com. ooo nice manifold

pain in the goddamn ass to put in, for some reason.

im trying to take my old manifold off, one bolt that connects the manifold to the turbo, in the back of course, is stuck, welded/fused to the nut. yeah thats right, i seem to have the only GODDAMNED 16g that doesnt have threads in the flange! so all night and all day today im trying to get that nut off. i break numerous sockets, rip open numerous fucking cuts in my knuckles. i buy an impact socket, that doesnt do a damn thing. i eventually take the whole turbo/manifold assembly out. i try hitting it with a chisel, i try a hacksaw, everything, the nut is fused to the bolt, but everything else is loose. in the process my wastegate for some reason decides to not close anymore. ill get to that later. i eventually get the bolt off, around 4:30 today. all the gaskets are shot, the downpipe, the oil return line(which gets a nasty kink in it fucking oil line)

so on my millionth trip to advanced, i get gaskets and some cotter pins. the gaskets of course are gonna have to be cut differently. nobody has any gaskets i need. i get home, its starting to get dark now, and put everythting back in. im bolting the downpipe to the turbo and i drop a washer into the exhaust side of the turbo. FUCK> a magnet of course wont get it, so i have to take it all off again and drop the washer out. so now, with a rag stuffed in there, i put everyhting back on. ok i got all new gaskets on, i grab the manifold and set it on, grab the bolts to put through, and they are

TOO
FUCKING
SHORT.

made of course for turbos with THREADS in them. the nuts cant grabfor shit. the original bolts i had on there were from mitsuibishi, and they were long enough. too bad they are all fucking stripped and shit and busted apart. i hate my car, i hate mitsus in general, i hate bolts, i hate turbochargers.com, i hate that my trans grinds at high rpms, i hate road noise, i hate gasket leaks, i hate FUCKING BOLTS THAT ARE NOT THE SAME SIZE. i hate everything right now. i just want to roll this car into a lake and get insurance money and buy a goddamn honda. a freakin civic has the easiest looking manifold to take off and put back on. fuck turbos

Re: venting

Sounds like you just have a bad experience with your turbo.

Strange that it doesn't have threads.

Just go to the parts store again and buy longer bolts.

And how did you finally get the bolt off?

Re: venting

What sorta crazy off brand turbo do you have? And what are you talking about that isnt threaded? I have no fucking clue what you are talking about for most of that post. That sucks though, I hate when stupid shit happens all the time.

You have to refer to the other post about getting the bolt of.

Apparently his 16g doesn't have threads on it for the bolts, so he was using nuts to thread the turbo bolts and hold the turbo on.

Re: venting

the flange, or whatever its called, the part thats actually ON the turbo house, that connects with the exhaust manifold. there are absolutely no threads on it for the bolts from the manifold to tighten to. so i need hex nuts. the bolts i have right now are from turbochargers.com, and they are supposed to(i guess) just thread right into that turbo flange. buuut....theere is nothing to thread into, so i use nuts. but because the bolts are too short, the nuts cant grab. so i have to wait until monday and go to napa or mitsu or somewhere and get longer bolts.

defiancy, i wrote this just before you sent that^^^ , but thanks. i went through 3 hacksaw heat treated blades and finally cut it off.

Re: venting

well advanced auto had heat treated bolts that work fine. but now i have a horrible problem. besides the fact that the line running from the oil pan to the turbo has a nasty leaky kink in it, and now my wastegate only stays closed because i bent the rod a bit, and everything is scratched, and a shitload of radiator fins are bent, and im nervous as hell that i didnt unbalance the turbo by bangng on that one nut, i cant pull the turbo/exhaust assembly up to the manifold. if i connect the manifold to the turbo first, then it doesnt come up to the head. the reason is because there is the most stupidest-ass(i KNOW its not a word) thick piece of metal that is part of the j-pipe wont allow me to pull it up.

heres a picture..please excuse the bad quality of the camera used lol

the black tube that runs from left to right comes from somewhere on the drivers side of the engine to the thermostat housing. i dont know what it is, but somehow it is now in the way. the irritating piece of metal is attached to the j-pipe, just off the side of it. so thasts my problem. ive tried pulling on it, i stood on my valve cover and pulled up on that turbo, nothing. i tried to pry it up, nothing. ive tried putting a jack underneith the exhaust and pushing it up, nothing, that piece of metal just puts it absolutely off center. i put the stock manifold on, and that still doesnt work any better.

ugh this car is RUINING my life! i started friday afternoon and now i am absolutely at a dead end. ok, not ruining my life but its getting on my nerves. i guess this makes me a dsmer right? lol it was funny just the other day at work i was thinking about these forums and everyone in here, and i was thinking about how some people mention that not everyone on here all have thier car running at the same time, at least 3 or more people are without a running dsm. and i was thiniking "well whats thier problem? my car has always been running.."

ugh bittersweet irony.
