Code Fix?
Recently, I just fixed the brakes on my 97 Taurus G, w/ the Vulcan (105k miles). Shortly thereafter, the check engine light came on, and these were the codes:
DTC P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected ( I am thinking this may have something to do w/ the spark plugs, not sure though...) DTC P0741 Torque Converter CKT Performance Or Stuck Off (May have to replace the torque converter? dunno...) Does anyone have any suggestions or advice as to where to start to fix the problems? Any and all feedback would be appreciated. I need to get this car fixed really soon, as it will be a Xmas present for my younger brother... |

Re: Code Fix?
The P0304 is likely due to spark plugs, the spark plug wire for cylinder 4, or the fuel injector on that cylinder. Any idea when the last time a tune up was performed on the car? If not, you may want to perform one (plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, add fuel injector cleaner to the fuel tank, etc.).
If you're lucky, the P0741 code will be due to a disconnected connector at the transaxle harness connector or a damaged terminal in the connection. You may also have a faulty transmission range switch (TRS) which has been a common problem with the Taurus for various electrical issues (you can search this forum to see if others have experienced this code due to the TRS). Or, maybe the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid is faulty. -Rod |
