'98 Camry persistent EGR Inefficiency code

'98 Camry, 108 k miles, 2.2L 4 cyl. Computer generating an EGR circulation inefficiency code. Valve checked by mechaninc who says it's fine. No vacuum leaks found. Valve cleaned as well as ports under valve cleaned. Code cleared by reader as well as by removing positive battery terminal for 30 minutes, but check engine light keeps coming on and code keeps coming back. Any advice on where to look next would be appreciated.

Go to the Camry FAQs thread at the top of the forum. Click page 3 and scroll to post 21 (yellow #upper right). Scroll to your code (401/402?) Has t-shooting info lower on the page. Plus you can go here: http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...3d8013eb25.jsp This is for a 96 but, should be some useful info there.

Modulator valve?

Very likely, you need to change your VSV for EGR.
