Transmission problem....failure??

Ok, I searched the forum for symptoms like mine but didn't find anything definate. I had the usual, whining/hard shifts. I also found out the tranny fluid was brown (burnt) so I was a little more worried. Last night as I was driving it I noticed at low speeds the van felt like it was surging, when I got to higher speeds (40+) it would stop but still felt a bit sluggish. My wife was taking it to the tranny shop this afternoon and called me about 3/4 of the way there to say it was doing the same thing, only worse, + the check engine light came on, then went off. When she pulled into the tranny shop she said it felt like the car was going to stop, it was that sluggish. Is my tranny fried??? How much does a tranny rebuild typically cost? Could this simply be a matter of bad fluid/filters that will correct itself (oh please say yes). Any input is appreciated!

OK, False alarm. Check engine warning was for a cylinder misfire. Damn thing needs a tuneup.

Question Re: Transmission problem....failure??

I had same code (cylinder misfire) on my van but with MAF and PCS code were also set. MAF was cleaned and PCS has been replaced. I still feel it is a bit sluggish from starting a stop light but highway driving is great. Did a tune up (spark plug, pcv, and air filter change) fix your problem of misfire and inner city driving.
