Need Help Cat Bad!!!!!

Ok I got a 1994 Pontiac Sunbird, it's got 123,000 and I bought the car like 4 months ago for $200 put like 20k on the car. Well recently the cat went, so I put a new one on today and I took it out for exactly one mile and I get out of the car and it smells like burnt wires or rotten eggs, look UNDER THE CAR AND THE CAT IS BRIGHT RED, could the new cat be shot or could the car be on it's way to a graveyard????????

Re: Need Help Cat Bad!!!!!

It is possible that the cat was simply burning the backed up junk that had accumulated in the engine. I would pull the spark plugs to see what they look like and replace as necessary. Usually a glowing cat indicates that there is too much fuel in the exhaust system. This can be caused by a sticking injector or bad plugs that are not burning the fuel mixture well. The new cat is probably fine. Check the muffler and tailpipe to make sure it isn't blocked.
