Re: new 04 aveo.. Uhhuh

Sorry. You made a mistake. The Aveo is not the best sub compact even in 2006 but the 2004 was the first year for the U.S. and it had more problems than a NY Times crossword puzzle. It was improved for 2005 but with many of the same problems. 2006 is supposed to be better (engineering upgrades eliminating many of the 2004/2005 problems) with more improvements in 2007. HOWEVER, with those improvements each year, the price goes up. 2006 is yet to be proven in my book but 2004/2005 are "throw away" cars. Use them until they break and then throw them away for something else.

Remember the Hyundai Excel? That was Korea's first shot at selling in America and it was horrible. Massive improvements since then but it took them 10 years to get Japanese level cars. Aveo is another Korean car that was originally sub standard for America (but perfectly acceptable in Korea). Daewoo went bankrupt and GM bought only this model and is working on improving it. Suzuki bought the other two models Daewoo had.

The big contradiction here is that GM got the Aveo so they would have a low cost entry level car. But as they improve it, the prices goes up. So by the time the car has a great record of quality it will probably cost as much or more than a Cobalt/Cavalier and they still won't have a low cost entry model!!

At the other end of the spectrum, I've heard the cars keep running even though they have problems and aggravations so maybe it will last for a while even if you can't stand all the noises.

Re: new 04 aveo.. Uhhuh

I've got a 2004 hatchback. I've put almost 40K on it in the last two years and haven't had a single problem. I changed jobs a year ago and am now driving 120 miles per day round trip. This is a mix of interstate, city, and secondary roads. The car has remained rattle free and still seems as tight as the day I bought it.

I hope that you have similar good experience with your Aveo.

Cool Re: new 04 aveo.. Uhhuh

I have a 2004 m/t Aveo (Indonesia), it already went up to almost 40,000 miles. I never had any problems at all. It's just the air conditioning that's not cool enough (since I live in a tropical country). The only problem is that squeaky noise if you go fast on turns, but I consider it normal.
But yes, I really notice the drop of price if you want to sell it. I suggest you use it till it breaks down. But if you keep it in a good shape (with good maintanance) I think it will last forever.

Sorry to tell you that you are so wrong, this is it's 5th year. Just because it's the first year it's had the Chevy nameplate doesn't mean it is the first year for Daewoo. It's made in the same factory as the 1999 Daewoo Lanos which I still see zipping around town 7 years after it was released.
