Cam Sensor

Hello Again;

Has anyone experianced any Cam Sensor problems. In my 93 APV which has the 3.8, I have a bad cam sensor. Are these a major problem to replace?

Do you have any symptoms showing or is this just from the CEL code?
THe cam sensor is used to synchronize injectors early on starting..earlier than crank sensor allows . ..and once started, the fuel synchronization comes from the 3x/18x signals from the crank sensor.

It is great cold but after it warms up the check engine light comes on and it stumbles from a take off and occasionally feels like it's missing when traveling down the road. I replaced the MAF a short time ago and put in a new set of wires and plugs. I had a friend run his scanner on it and it read "no Cam Sensor" so I assumed that this is the problem. I have an Oxygen Sensor that goes in the exhaust manifold that I planed on putting in this Sunday as a preventitive maintenace practice.

Well with a '93 you need no scanner...just use this procedure and the codes read from the CEL.

Agin once started the cam sensor is not really a critical component. I'd rather suspect the crank sensor....not to funny to change.
Unless you have positive indication of poor gaz mileage or other codes, the oxygen sensor ...given the place where it is...is not to be changed just for fun.
ANd using the procedure above, you can use it with engine running (field service mode) and see when the computer changes from open loop to closed loop operation....and if the trouble starts showing at that moment, then indeed some suspicion of the O2 sensor can be thought of.
