diagnosis help: loud fan-like noise behind glove compartment
Recently I removed my dash to replace my ac condenser. I reinstalled everything, and everything works fine. The only problem I have now is that when I start my car and accelerate, there is a loud fan-like noise that is coming from behind the glove compartment area. After a minute or two, the noise subsides and stays quiet for the duration of my trip. The noise is in synch with my engine, the more I accelerate, the louder it is. Any ideas, I hate to go tearing into the dash again. It was painful enough the first time.

The engine clutch fan make noise when starting. Maybe you are hearing that because the heat/AC is not in recirulation (max) or closed mode.

I have not refilled my a/c since replacing my part. Could this have somethingt to do with it. No pressure is in the system.

Probably not...are the vaccum hoses for the flaps on correctly. What year is it...it is not a Grand Cherokee is it?

OK..Jeep calls them mode doors in the service manual. They determine the mode like deforst, face, floor, and max (recir.). Engine vaccum controls these doors.
I was thinking you are hearing the clutch fan through the fan housing, but if you think it is the heater fan you can verify that by listening by the fan housing or look from under the hood. The clutch fan noise is normal and has been noticed by other owners. The only other possiblity (which I cannot verify in the service manual) is that on some vehicles the fan comes on for a short time after the car starts to get the moisture out of the AC housing so it is less likely to mildew. Don't have it in my XJ which a 97 (My kid's 01 is in SOCal.). Definitely get the A/C recharged soon. |
