New car maybe?

Well, in order to pick up my neon I have to go to my mom's house in NC, which my dad really does'nt want to do.

So, instead, he was thinking of juy buying a used car. So that got me lookin and I came up with a couple choices.

2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT - Black, regular V6, 21k miles for 14k. Originally bought and driven in Staten Island ( Can you say suspension problems? lol )

2006 Pontiac Grand Prix Sedan - Weird blue ( looks liek cobalt blue to me ) , same V6, 15k miles for 15k.

The problem I have with this one is that I dont really like the blue, and its the base ( no dual exhaust etc - the black grand prix was the base in 04 too, but it had a more sporty look as a base model ) and the fact that it was a rental in Virginia first. Now at first I would immediately say no way, but the car was not beat up or anything.

That brings me to my third choice.

*ATTENTION, If you AF username starts with M and ends in usashi3000GT, please stop reading now, because I fear being hated, beat up, and tortured.

While perusing the lot looking at those 2 grand prix's i happened to stumble across a GTO, which I figured my dad would like ( Former red 'Cuda Owner way back when - which he bought for 900 dollars and ended up destroying while racing my uncle in a dirt field ) and he absolutely loved it. It was a dark blue ( I dont know, did'nt seem like Musashi's GTO blue, seemed like a really dark/navy blue-but maybe that was because the sun was'nt out and it was cloudy. )

Anyways, it has 11k miles or so and sticker was 24k. Not too bad. Besides my dad likes it alot and definitely approves so who knows. Only problem is that I cant drive a stick, which it was a manual. I would like to learn, and I know how to drive manual in theory, Ive just never done it. Previously my dad said no manuals, but when we were lookin he said he would'nt mind just didnt think it would be smart for a 16 year old who should be more worried about the road. Which I agree with, so Ill probably try to find a used auto.

So, in the end the GTO is kinda pricey, so I probably wont get it unless I wait a year or so ( when the payments for my brothers truck ends since theyre kinda expensive- somewhere around 450 a month plus insurance. ) and drive the neon for a year.

So which would you go for? Grand Prix now, no neon, or GTO later, neon for a year.

Either way, I better start growing a mullet...

Re: New car maybe?

As much as I like to say GTO, since you are 16 maybe you can find some kind of middle ground and get a GTP. Its not quite the beast that the GTO is but its really no slouch.

I second the GTP. It's a quick little sedan that shouldn't get you into too much trouble assuming you drive it wisely.

I say stay with the neon for a while, learn how to drive, and look back at the GTO in a year when it is down to $19k.

Re: New car maybe?

Yeah but my dad does'nt liek the idea of me driving the neon because of safety and visibility and such.

I think I have a good idea. I recently found some good deals on V6 mustangs. Thyere cheap, ( 12 to 14k with low miles ) not too powerful, yet still fun and they look really nice at least. I cant decide if I truly like the Grand Prix styling.First I hated it, then I liked it, its like a ping pong match.

But yeah now V6 mutangs are sounding good....

Wow, Im so undecisive...

maybe you should spend a month test driving cars and see what you actually like before you you get mentally committed to anything, then.

Re: New car maybe?

Since you're young, why don't you look at an older mustang... like a fox body v8. Then you can learn how to drive a stick in a powerful car. And if you thrash it up it's not going to be the end of the world since it's so old. A civic is probably a better idea though...

Dude, for those prices, if your willing to look, you could get a GT 'Stang.

My two pennies? Suck it up and drive the Neon for a year. I dorve a shit ton of them over the summer for work. They have a crap ass interior, no power, and most of the ones I drove had a funny smell, but there were no visability problems or anything like that. Then, after a year, get that GTO.

Re: New car maybe?

Get the GTO first. Don't get an automatic, get the 6 speed.
Don't get a V6 Mustang!

Re: New car maybe?

I dont think the GTO will still be around in a year. Nothing stays on a car lot that long.

Soo, I say you better get something that you're going to want to keep for a few years.

Re: New car maybe?

hey don't bash v6 stangs!!!

but seriously.. your 16.. imagine the insurance... i know for my soon to be brother in law his is 1700 every 6 months on a v6 06 stang.

i would not want to even know the cost on a GTO.

get a foxbody stang, they are ugly ,but also ugly fast and cheap on insurance. You'll definately have fun and learn alot at the same time. plus it's RWD... Cmon...

Re: New car maybe?

I say neon now GTO later. You wont find that one but im sure there will be others for even better deals. With that much money to spend though you could get some many cool cars. But if your sticking to new ones I say look at

WRX
VW GTI
Mazda speed3
etc...

Re: New car maybe?

hell since it's your first car... go with something old, cheap, and easy to work on. If you want rwd, go with a foxbody stang, if you want fwd go with an older celica or honda civic, if you want awd.... i have no idea lol
