2004 Impala - Hazard Lights/ Turn Signal Flashers

I have a 2004 Impala and on a recent road trip I noticed the turn signals do not flash when I turn them on. I did some testing and here is the additional info:

1. None of the bulbs are burnt out.

2. When I switch on the hazards they do not flash either but just stay on constant.

3. I have checked both turn signal and hazard fuse and neither are blown.

4. The not flashing affects both left and right turn signals.

I suspect the flasher is the culprit so I called the dealer to find out if a warranty or anything would cover it. The dealer told me that there is a separate flasher for the hazard lights and for the turn signal and thought it was strange that both went out. He said to bring it in for a diagnostic test for the tune of $35-$65.

Anyone else have a different take? I plan on calling another dealership to get a second opinion.

In the tail light their are two different number bulbs. A single filament and a dual filament. If you recently changed a bulb its possible you put the wrong ones in. If you did this check the otherside and install the proper bulbs the same way.

I would go to a parts store and buy a new flasher and try it. You could have a bad hasard flasher switch. If you have a volt meter or 12v test light check for power to the flasher. I have changed the switch on the steering column before but your vehicle is not that old. Did any part of the wiring harness get damaged. I would check the fuse with a 12v test light.
If you have power to the bulb I would definately try a flasher. Shouldn't be that much.

Re: 2004 Impala - Hazard Lights/ Turn Signal Flashers

I think BLMitch is correct, I'll confirm it once I get my hands on a new switch.

My mother has an '01 Impala so I turned on her turn signals and hazards and heard the clicking (that is absent from my car) coming from behind the hazard switch. So I am assuming this is where the flasher should be since the flasher makes the clicking noise. I pulled off the dash and checked and all that is back there is the hazard switch assembly. I'll try switching it out and report back if this fixes the problem or not.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions so far.

Replacing the hazard switch did fix the car.
