Spending $150... But on what?
Evo3 exhaust manifold to replace my ported 2g manifold?
Evo3 o2 housing to repace my ported o2 housing? Used MAFT v2.01 with 3in MAF to vent my BOV? Apexi Turbo Timer for new Evo316g? Lowering Springs to drop the hotness? Real J-pipe to eliminate my hacked POS monstrosity of one? Macv viscous coupler eliminator so I can run my AWD on a 2wd Dyno? I'm leaning twords the V-coupler Elim.

Re: Spending $150... But on what?
Ooh, $150 for a MAFT? Shit... how could you pass that up? Personally, I think that going to an Evo III manifold/o2 sensor housing when you already have ported 2g ones would be a waste of time.

Re: Spending $150... But on what?
MAFT would only be for my BOV. I have dsmlink..
Turbo timer would be kinda nice too on a new turbo Going to a Dyno 3 blocks from my apartment would be Awsome, sence the nearest AWD is 600+ miles away!

Re: Spending $150... But on what?
dont need a turbo timer, the evo3 is water cooled. Just don't turn it off right after it's at full boost.
evo3 housing or manifold gets my vote. Huge improvement in airflow potential.

Re: Spending $150... But on what?
That is true... judgement call I guess. If you would have asked a bit earlier, I have a turbo timer I dont plan on using, I woulda cut you a deal for it. Though nice, I think they are kinda a hassle. I would rather just chill out in the car for a few minutes and let er cool off. I personally would way rather have a loud BOV than the ability to dyno... arent the MAFT setups way more accurate than the stock DSM MAF's?

Re: Spending $150... But on what?
in fact they're a PITA, even with DSMLink.
That is unless you just buy it to vent and leave it alone.

Re: Spending $150... But on what?
Hey Thor, what kind of a turbo timer do you have ? I am looking for one. Yesterday I saw a 95GSX that was being parted out and I bought a ISC for $5
, it had a turbo timer but I am clueless of how to take it off.

Re: Spending $150... But on what?
Mine is one of the HKS ones. IIRC HKS has two models, one fancier one and one not so fancy. I think this is the fancier one. I dont know though. I am with you on that, I dont know how to get it off. Havent tried either, though it might be easy. I would absolutely sell it (there is going to be one hard core fuckin F/S thread in like the middle of May) but its at a friends house like 4 hours north of here.

Re: Spending $150... But on what?
GM Maf allows you to flow more air and they are a lot less restricting. Gets a lot of shit out from in front of the turbo. Technically they are "more" accurate due to the fact that they can be moved to right before the throttle body so you are seeing the exact amount of air flowing into the intake manifold.
He has a GM 3 bar MAP sensor, there for a GM Maf will be easy to setup in DSMLink. It is almost impossible to set it up right without a MAP sensor. It can be done but thats the PITA way. Due to having to swap the stock mas in and out of the car to check settings. I would go with the GM Maf and Translator. Depending on how ported your manifold and o2 housing are, you wont see much of an improvement switching to an Evo mani. You dont need a TT. Lowering springs are up to you, depending on how the stock springs are for your liking. J-pipe is pretty important if you have a hacked up one. If it doesnt leak then I wouldnt worry about it. But I'd definately test it to make sure. V.C. elim is a waste of money also. Find a stock one for $15 online somewhere and have someone weld it together. Done. Also, what is the reason you are dynoing? If it is only to tune your car, find a buddy and go tune on the street. Nothing will change as far as your settings. You have everything a Dyno has. You have a wideband, tuning program, and you will actually get better intake temp's if you tune your car on the street. More of a better tune. Also, to think that it's not only going to cost you the $160 for the V.C.E. but then you have to pay for the dyno time. Waste of money if you ask me. Only time I would ever use a dyno again is if I switch to AEM with dual fuel rails. Thats when it gets tricky to get the fuel maps correct. Brent Rau doesnt use a dyno, Shepherd doesnt use a dyno, as a matter of fact, Shep still screws around on the street when tuning. Think about that. |

Re: Spending $150... But on what?
Can you imaging taking 3rd gear pulls in that beast all day tuning? So where would Rau tune then, just on the track? |

Re: Spending $150... But on what?
He doesnt have that much to tune. More fine tuning than anything and its easy to do while running down the track.
As for all day tuning, he doesnt do that much, maybe 3 to 4 pulls at most and its 4th gear. 3rd gear is too short for the power band to log. |
