Bearing clearances

I'm putting my motor back together and I wanted to varify that I have the right clearances. My rods are coming in at about .0015. I havent checked the mains yet but I figured I would check one and a time

Re: Bearing clearances

All bearings are .0015". That seems right on to me

Re: Bearing clearances

.0008 to .002 is roughly the amount of clearance you want on the rod bearing.

You're pretty much in the middle so you are good.

The crankshaft has a smaller margin... .0008 to .0016 is where you want to be within for main bearing clearances.

Be sure to measure endplay on the crank, (aka measure crankwalk). Good way to test if the block/crank are good. I know this is a new rebuild on the motor but it can help if it is out of spec to prevent you from failure right away. Make sure the clearance of endplay is between .002 - .0071

Good luck... Hope everything goes as planned and she starts right up!

Re: Bearing clearances

correct me if im wrong but i thought endplay was from min<-(which is stock from factory was .003) and max you could have after worn was .009

Mine was .005 with 130k on it and with new bearings after rebuild it was .003

Re: Bearing clearances

The max you should have before needing new bearings is .0071. Service limit is supposidly .015 but thats a hell of a lot of play. I would rebuild the damn thing if its anything over .0071 but that is just me, I am a picky/anal bitch when it comes to my engines.

Re: Bearing clearances

Yay for certificates...

Those classes are so pointless. I am ASE certified and most the shit I know came from trial and error. Whoopty doo... I got a certificate and a patch to sew on my shirt so that must me I know what to do!

HA. But for most shit now days you need them, thats what really sucks.

Re: Bearing clearances

I take the whole ase thing with a grain of salt but if you want to make money in the auto field you need to have the patch. I wasnt bragging either because alot of the people that have one come from a cookie cutter school like wyotech and dont know shit

Re: Bearing clearances

Exactly... I know you werent bragging. I was just saying that the whole certificate thing is bullshit. Any meathead can go out and get the certificate just for paying attention in school... But that doesnt mean they can actually work on a car.

Also... Wyo-tech or any other school like that are just a major waste of money when you can learn the exact same thing at a local tech school. Get the same certificate and all the other BS.

Good luck with the schooling... After building your talon you should have no problem whipping through the class blind folded. It gets even better when you can point out things to make the teacher feel stupid. Gotta have fun while you can.

Re: Bearing clearances

Can you take the tests without going to tech school?
