OK guys I have read a bunch of articles concerning horsepower VS. torque but none have answered my questions. I am looking at the nissan maxima 1989-1994.
The 1989-1991 maxima SE has 160 hp at 5200 RPM and 182 ft. lbs. of torque at 2800 RPM. The 1992-1994 maxima SE has 190 HP at 5600 RPM and 190 ft. lbs. of torque at 4000 RPM. The 1992-1994 models obviously has 30 HP more and a little more torque but the 1992-1994 usualy costs about $1000 more than the 1989-1991 maxima. Should I save myself a $1000 and get the 1989-1991 model or is the extra $1000 worth 30hp and 10 ft. lbs of torque? or does anyone knwo of any big problems in the 1989-1994 maxima that I should look out for when lookign for what year to buy?

a full exhuast (headers downpipe hi-flow cat and cat back system) will cost less than 1000 and will easily make up that lost power. and also an intake will help. but the mileage and body/engine condition is waayyy more important than the power the engine is rated at.

Trust me a fully modded VG=160hp maxima will not compete with a VE=190hp maxima. The VE has soo much top end and the VG lacks top end, so put them together and you have a VG getting walked hard at anything above 45mph
