huh?

So, among the plethora of problems i have encountered with my beetle, i have found yet another one (possibly). I installed a new battery in my beetle last week and when i reconnected the power, my stereo hadn't reset or need a code. I was curious, so I pulled the stereo completely out, disconnected everything, then plugged it back in about two hours later. Still, no code was necessary. Anyone know why it would do this?

Re: huh?

Is it the genuine VW item or aftermarket? - many new aftermarket ones nowdays just have the detachable front and no security code as this makes them cheaper to produce and less hassles for the owner. Radios will usually have "security coded" written on their faceplate to deter thieves.

Re: huh?

OK - so next thing is whether your owners handbook says you need a security code. If you don't have the handbook you will not know for sure.....also if someone was real clever and handy at fabrication, they could attach a genuine VW radio faceplate to an aftermarket one just to maintain 'appearances'. So maybe the security code is not required (?).

But does it say "security coded" on the faceplate?
