Exclamation Engine Rebuild

Ok so I just bought my 1998, 5 spd, 2.2L, 4 banger not long ago, and I want to rebuild the engine using higher quality parts that can manage higher rpms on like a 1/4 mile and such. I have a few questions about the whole idea though. How hard is it going to be to remove and reinstall the engine? I am slightly mechanically enclined, and can usually put something back together the way it was. What obstacles might I be facing. (I have no a/c which helps a bit I guess). Is it worth replacing the rods and pistons? I want to put a new set of valves and springs in, should I put new rockers in also? What are good parts to buy for these applications and where can I get them. I also want to install a lightened flywheel and racing clutch. I was looking at getting a stage 3 clutch is this a good/bad idea? My main goal is next summer I gota beat my buddy down the quarter mile. He is getting a old chevy with a 305, with an auto tranny. Do I have a chance? any suggestion are good, I need lotsa help.

Re: Engine Rebuild

well, it sholdnt be too hard to remove the engine, as long as you have an engine hoist or a lift to lift the whole car and drop the engine outa the bottom. ur facing a lot of work, cuz removing an engine takes a fair amount of time. took me about 4 hours to help remove my buddies 5.9 out of a ram. just take your time and be organized about it. mark all tabs and connectors so u know where to put them when u go to reinstall. and as for the pistons, rods, and everything else u were talking about internally. i would replace everything as long as you can afford it cuz ur talking about at least a grand depending on wat quality of parts ur using. u would proly get better results from a turbo....just my thought though. ur in for a LONG trip if u do what u say ur going to, but good luck

Just not intellectually inclined. Haha sorry, had to point that out, but sounds like a good project you have going there.
