Exclamation how to remove a speed/rev limiter from a 2001 grand am gt ram air?

My speedometer is 150 mph but yet i can't reach that speed. Must be the limiter right? Well I'm curious to know where that is and how to remove it and replace it if needed.Im not a certified mechanic, but i do love working on my car. This is something im dying to know how to do. Can anyone help me out?

Welcome to AF Rockeros!

Yea that would be your governor kicking in not letting you go past a certain speed. to remove this youll have to purchase a new PCM for your car, which removes your governor and it can be purchased from PFYC.com it shows you what else it does Gir who is also on the forums told me its a great mod for the buck and i just purchased mine and waiting for it to come and i cant wait but other than that, this is the only way to remove the governor.

Your car does not have tires to safely be going 150+ MPH.

Thank you.
She does okay. Lots of work into her for sure.

My comment wasn't to be a jack@ss or anything, but that governor is there for a reason. The governor is based on the tire speed rating.

it doesnt really matter if tires are rated for 1000mph.

the fact is, the road, your skills, and other peoples ignorance,
could get you and others killed realy fast.

I know I'm no one to talk
I did mine in increments of 10

hehe, it's a simple analogy like this:

try running @ full speed on flip flops (ie OEM tires)

then put on some running shoes & try running @ full speed on them! (ie sport tires)
