Re: Clutch is finally goin...

I would suggest a ACT 2600. They will run you around $350. I would get a sprung 6 puck disk or street disk. If you get a solid 4 or 6 puck, prepare for doom. They are either in or out, theres no in between. The sprung 6 pucks are the way to go.

Re: Clutch is finally goin...

For your setup I would say a 2600 with a street disc should be plenty... If you really wanna be certain though I would also suggest a sprung 6 puck. Although I prefer "Competition Clutches" over "ACT's" just because their street discs hold like a 6 puck.

Re: Clutch is finally goin...

I have a ACT solid 6 puk in my 300z. Thor06 is right a real hassle in parking lots. the stock clutch in my 300z would only spin the tire from 1st to 2ed gear. with the 6puk it churped the tires shifting from 3rd to 4th gear.

Re: Clutch is finally goin...

Ha ha, I know a guy with a sprung 6 puck in his 300zx, same as yours I think but cream colored. You're NT on the Z right? I took his 300zx for a drive, whippin shitties is pretty easy . I know a guy that put some crazy sprung 3 puck in his Del Sol. I didnt even launch when I was racing this grand am and I grabbed 2 gear rubber HARD and chirped 3rd pretty good. Clutches are sweet, his Del Sol could just barely chirp 2nd before then.

Re: Clutch is finally goin...

my 300z is twin turboed. I love that car but its so f***ing hard to work on. just to upgrade the turbos you have to take the engine out. thats why I just swaped the rear diff. gears to a 4.10 raito. people say its about the same as doing a turbo upgrade quickness wise. plus with the act 6 puk its like a leg workout everytime you press the cluch in.

Re: Clutch is finally goin...

Killer speaks the truth. Heavier clutches may very well be a big player in the CW game. I would just throw a stocker back in that shit until you get a 6 bolt. I guess if you really want an aftermarket clutch on a 7 bolt, I would get an ACT 2100. Its a risk though, just so you know.

I'm getting a Center Force Dual Friction clutch. The peadal feel is supposed to be about stock, but it can hold much better

Re: Clutch is finally goin...

Yes the heavy clutches do bring an earlier death to 7 bolts. I can speak from experience on that subject matter.

Re: Clutch is finally goin...

I have a ACT 2600 and it hold very good. My friend has a EVO and I launched it from 4K and it smelled like burn clutch for about 30min. Mine, I launch from 5-6K and it grabs like crazy, I spin the tires a little bit most of the time and it doesnt smell at all. I have 128K on my engine and ( knock on wood) no crankwalk .... yet.. I hope it never walks. I have to measure to see if the crankshaft is moving. I hope its not since I dont think I can live thorugh another crankwalked engine. The only bad thing about ACT 2600, you dont want to get stuck in traffic, you will loose feeling of your leg in about 20 minutes. I just dont know what kind of disk the clutch has and if its 4 or 6 puck but I saw when the put it in the car and I know it was a ACT 2600 just dont know which kind. Any way to tell ? I really would want to know which kind I have exactly. Sorry for stealing the thread with my stupid questions.

Re: Clutch is finally goin...

Its pretty much impossible to slip a 4 and 6 puck disc. Whereas most street discs you can still slip for the most part... My street disc grabs like a sprung 6 puck... I could never slip it before. Once I got used to it it wasn't so bad for daily driving...

Re: Clutch is finally goin...

ok.. what exactly is slipping the clutch?

And how much labor cost is average for replacing the awd clutch?

Would this clutch work for my car?

Re: Clutch is finally goin...

Labor for an AWD cluth is a fuckin bitch ton of money. Thats why I do my own work. I cant accurately describe what is moving when a clutch is slipping, I think its the clutch disk rubbing agains the flywheel is it not? All I know is its not good. I burnt mine once on a hard launch (IIRC 5500 dump) with two friends in the car. It smells terrible.
