I'm an idiot.

Moral of the story - check that IGN-ECM fuse when your ECM "fails".

Dude that sucks. I've done things like that too. Happens to the best of us.

Re: I'm an idiot.

This reminds me back when I had a powersteering leak, I right away ordered a new low pressure line, when all I needed was 2$ fuel line with a bend in it and a fitting on the end to screw in and some rubber hose

Returning items rocks!

Bad part is, it makes you feel twice as bad when people are always turning to you for advice.

It's so easy sometimes to think outside of the box and overlook the little things.

I'll bet you porbably had the same sinister, "ah hah you little S.o.b." snicker when you found it

It was more like "Oh, that explains it" ... The problem is that I think like a technician, so I pulled out the diagram I had for it, which omitted that fuse from the diagram. Only seeing two fuses, GAUGES and ECM, I checked those two fuses and they were good. It wasn't until I was probing around in there last night that I stumbled upon the IGN-ECM fuse. I pulled it and looked at it, and saw it was blown. Perhaps I shouldn't always think like a tech. I suppose if I thought like a 5-year-old, I would have found it immediately.

But you're right - I give a lot of advice here and then _I_ go and pull a stupido.

I did that once ...

the affected head was warped, and the block between 3 and 5 was burned through. Had no choice but to replace the whole thing. This was a Poncho 400 in a '75 Grand Am. Thanks, sis!

That was in 1993. The engine that replaced the 400 was a certain SBC 350. The same engine in the Caprice, now - some 263,000 miles later.
