several questions for a car audio n00b

i have a 94 chevy s10 regular cab. my friend is selling me a 06 15'' Kicker L7 and an 06 Kicker 850.2 i think it is. both brand new. my question is what size box should i get? i am going for SPL with minimal SQ. the box sub and amp, will undoubtedly have to go in the truck bed. meaning i will need a tanneau cover first. isnt it generally the bigger the box, the deeper the bass? or would it be better to get a smaller box with a pickup? doesnt a ported box usually gives deeper bass? someone help me out please

ok i was right on the amp. 06' 850.2 (black) but the sub is a 15'' L7 but its a silver 05 model. and someone today at school told me their buddy has an s10 reg cab with a big box behind the bench seat. is this even possible? i mean theres like 4 inches between the seat and the window.

Re: several questions for a car audio n00b

If your going for SPL you may want to go for a Band pass configuration
in the bed with a hard cover that is theft deterant or a good alarm system
as for getting the sound into the cab cut out four holes for the ports to feed in the boom if you want the look to you can cut out for the window in the enclosure and maybe hook up some neon 8" tubes inside the center of the enclosure ........... AS for the gasket from bed to cab find some elastomeric foam that can be cut and positioned in place then run a bead of clear silicone
to keep gasket in place and make a weather tight seal ....... what you can use for gasket matierial is PIPE insulation the stuff plumbers or A/C Guys use to insulate pipes

get back let me know what you end up doing???":?

Re: several questions for a car audio n00b

Ive seen guys cut out holes big enough for the face of the box to fit in, and they build a sheet metal housing and either weld it or bolt it to the bed to hide the enclosure and protect it. This way you get all the sound straight to the cab. Bandpass boxes take extremely careful measuring, designing, and work to make work efficiently. But once this is done its a different story. Id say ported box, about 3.5-5 cuft. While a bigger box does make a sub sound deeper, this is to an extent. If you make the box to large it can act as if its in a free air setup and will in the end result in power handling loss and crap for sound.

Your best bet would be to get a set of bucket seats from either another s-10 or blazer and build a box that will sit in between the seats. The box wont be big but if make a good sealed box it can have a ton of bass.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.
