Exclamation 2000 E320 won't start

I have a 2000, E320 that occasionally will not start. The car will start and run fine, shut it off, and it will not start. It does not display any trouble codes on the diagnostic tool. I changed the fuel filter and the fuel pump seems to be running fine. When you turn the key the motor will turn over but not start. I used the other key and replaced the batteries in both. No help. It will not start in nuetral either. Wait 15 minutes and try again and it turns over. It stalled once while driving two weeks ago. It will work fine for a week and then not start. Once it does start, it runs fine. Does anyone have any suggestions or have you heard of this before. Any info would be helpfull. Thanks.

Re: 2000 E320 won't start

I have the same vehicle, and it just started doing the exact same thing. It has a transfer case problem on a 4 matic that I have not fixed, but I doubt that it has anything to do with this. I also need some suggestions for this problem.

Re: 2000 E320 won't start

We have a 2000 E320 which began to experience the same problems about 3 -4 weeks ago. Last week our local "foreign car specialist" (we are 73 miles from a MB Dealer) replaced the Fuel Pump and Fuel Filter. Next day, same problem.

My wife took the car to the MB Dealer today and they diagnoised the problem as a faulty "crankshaft position sensor" . The Dealer, which has a good reputation said the problem would not be caused by a faulty fuel pump.

The part is approximately $126 plus labor and we will not have the car back until this Thursday. I'll let you know if it fixed the problem.

A faulty cranshaft position sensor will definitely cause the intermittant no start problem. Had the same problem on a Chrysler, dealer replaced the cranshaft sensor 3 years ago and it hasn't missed starting since.

Most likely a CKP sensor (Crankshaft position sensor), common problem on the M112 & M113 engines. Luckily easy to replace, no programming involved.
