Pitman seal question

I was wondering if anyone has replaced one, ( well I am sure one of you have ) on a '91 2.8Trooper? It seems that the gear box is in the way of the puller, when I try to take the pitman arm off. If I unbolt the gearbox from the frame, will it give me enough room?
