New gas tank, new problem. 1996 2.2L Sunfire

Hello every one,

I installed a brad new gas tank into my 1996 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L from NAPA. When filling the gas tank before the change, you could have the gas pump trigger squeezed fully and it would only stop when the tank is full. Now that I have changed the gas tank, you cant have the trigger squeezed as far at all! It just keeps stopping and clicking and spraying gas every where down the side of the car. Now here is the kicker, I though it might be a pinched line. Checked under the car and none looked pinched. So I decided to put the key to the "RUN" postion, and wa~la, you can fill the gas tank with no porblem again! I dont know what would make the difference with having the key "ON" or "OFF" to fill the gas tank? Any suggestions to help remedy this issue would be amazing, for it is driving me up a wall and with the high prices of gas I hate seeing my money spill on the ground! Thank you.

it really sound like your vent line is pinched maybe even above the tank cause the fuel pump turns on when the key is on and that vents the tank check that

my wifes cougar (along with every 99-02 cougar in the world) does this, what you need to do is pull the nozzle out maybe in inch or 2 so its only in there halfway, or just set the nozzle to a slower speed, not full blast

i cant explain why it wouldnt do it with the key in though, was it just one time youve done that?? maybe it was just a coincidence, if it works like that every time, then shit, who knows (not me)
