Tranny Problems
I have a 1991 Chevy Lumina and one of the screws for the tranny pan broke off in the tranny. Is this an easy fix? If so, any idea how much it would cost me?
Any info is greatly appreciated. Also on a side how do you add pic to your profile. |

I think if it were me, I might be inclined to just get some nice rigid bar stock metal that will fit in the trough of the pan, and drill two holes that will align with the holes on either side of the broken bolt, maybe put a very slight concave bend in it, and use it on the outside of the pan to provide some additional clamping force at the bad location, unless it's on a corner or something, then I'm outta ideas....

Re: Tranny Problems
I was just thinking...if the above is no help, you might could drill up through the pan and case with the appropriate size bit, creating a new hole right next to the buggered one, then helicoil it with new threads, and use that location instead of the original...have to be very careful to bore it straight, and not break through into the case...you only need 6-8mm depth or so...paint a mark on the drill bit at the depth you wanna stop at, so you don't overshoot. Drill the pan first, then install it, and use that hole as a guide to drill the case...and make damn sure no metal shavings get inside the pan...

Re: Tranny Problems
Push the insert image button (looks like a little pic of mountains and a sun) above the reply box, it'll open a window that allows you to paste the location of the photo, and it'll place it in your post...
You pic has to be online, and addressed as a URL in order to work...if it's just some pic on your computer, you'll have to place it online someplace to post it, either on one of the many free online image and file server services, or in your personal photos here in your user profile, go to the user CP (control panel) at the top of this page, and select the option that allows you to put a pic in your gallery. Then right click on the pic itself once it's there, and select "Properties", which will open a box that, among other things, includes the URL (address) of the pic. Left click and drag over the entire addy to hilight it, then right click inside the highlighted box and select "Copy"... Go back to your post, and drop the addy by right clicking and "Paste" after clicking the "insert image" button where you want it in the post... Clear as mud, huh? Frustrating, initially. |

Re: Tranny Problems
I use photobucket.com for my images. It's free, and easy to use.

Re: Tranny Problems
I have another problem. The tranny in my 1994 Lumina is leaking but I am not sure where. I changed the gasket and filter, but it is not leaking from the gasket.
Any suggestions??? |

Re: Tranny Problems
Is it leaking on the ground, or is it using fluid?

Re: Tranny Problems
Check the vacuum line to the modulator for fluid. If you see any, the vacuum modulator diaphram has a tear or is leaking, sucking the trans fluid into the engine. If so, on the positive side, your motor should be nice and clean inside.
