Question on torsion/shackle lift kit and balljoints

I'm about to upgrade my 2wd exploder daily driver to a 2001 chevy blazer LT 4dr 4wd.

It has about 100k miles, and it would seem the front end is shot. The truck has a really bad wobble over 60mph.

From reading, I see that I should get the moog replacement balljoints, but what else could be causing the wobble? The truck almost feels like a tire weight fell off but they were recently rebalanced.

It has 235/75R15 BFG AT KO's on it right now, but I would really like to give it a 2" lift and go with bigger tires since I'm going to be doing so much work on the front end anyways.

Is that auction going to include everything I'll need for the install?

No hidden things I'll run into like bumpstops, shocks not being long enough, alignment problems etc?

The truck has the factory bilstein shocks on it and it has a factory fiberglass front skidplate.

I just bought the same kit from the same guy about 2-3 months ago. The rear shakles gave me about 1.5 " gain and the fronts were about the same. BUt the reindex keys were to much for the stock upper control arm. you need to replace the UCA w/ aftermarket ones. there about 300-400 though super lift. at that price you mine as well get the 2" kit from them for about 600 and it comes with everything you need. And you may not have alignment problems but get one done any way. It doesnt hurt.

are you talking about this kit?
http://www.ultimateautoaccessories.c...A/PROD/SS/K451

that comes with shocks and control arms, not a bad deal I geuss but I'm a big fan of bilstein shocks and this blazer has them now. Would it be a bad idea to keep the stock bilstein's? Can I get that kit anywhere else cheaper without shocks?

That link also says to use STOCK size tires...?

Re: Question on torsion/shackle lift kit and balljoints

I just did the full 2" Superlift on my truck this past labor day weekend. Really took my time with it as it was my first one.

Rear Shackles - No Sweat at all. While your in there though you may want to look at the bushings and change them out. Gained 1.75" on the rear.

Front Upper Control Arms - The kit came with new "wishbone" type and the are pretty heavy duty. Took the old ones off and the bushings were shot all to hell. So good thing they got changed out. UCAs come with the new bushing, sleeves, and grease fittings.

Lower Control Arms - Changed out the bushings, no sweat here.

Upper & Lower Ball Joints - I went with the Moog Problem Solver units. No sweat here either. The previous owner had already changed them out some time ago so the rivets were already ground out.

Front & Rear Sway Bars - Rebushed with Energy suspension kit.

Idler Arm Pivot Arms - Removed and Replaced.

The kit I bought DID NOT come with shocks. I used my Rancho ZR2 shocks and have seen no problems. That rdeuced the cost to about $500 with shipping. If you have to replace the shocks then I would stay away from the Superlift Shocks. Heard they are not reliable. www.rockymountainsusp.com call and talk with Robin, tell her Brad sent you. they were awesome to deal with and even sent me some free stuff. Gloves, shirts, etc.

Took it to the shop and had full alignment done and surprisingly it was not that far out of alignment. I also had the tech go every each of my job to make sure there was torque, cotter pins, and plenty of grease. By the way, gained 2" in the front, but expect it to settle some. After 1000 miles will reinspect all torques and safeties and shop agreed to double check the alignment for free.

All in all on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being extremely difficult, I give this one about a 6.

Re: Question on torsion/shackle lift kit and balljoints

are these the moog 'problem solver' ball joints?

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I have a list of $360 worth of parts in my cart at summit.

poly swaybar bushings up front
poly rear leaf bushings
moog idler/pitman arm
moog upper/lower balljoints

I appreciate that link, they have the 2" kit I want for $518 without shocks, so I'll keep the stock bilstein's which are fine

I've replaced every single component on my mustang when I converted it from a 4cyl/automatic to a 5.0/5spd manual and I'm looking forward to tearing into a new project as soon as I get this truck
